The 2013 Thera Rabinowitch Award Competition

The Rabinowitch Competition was established in memory of the piano teacher and Palo Alto
Branch president, Thera Rabinowitch, by her family, to reward students of the Palo Alto Branch
for outstanding musical performance.

There are two divisions: Junior and Senior.
Junior Division is for students in school grades 5-8; Senior Division is for students in grades 9-12.

There are three Prizes for each Division. Trophies will be awarded to all prize winners. First place winner will receive cash prize besides trophy.

To enter this competition students are required to prepare a program of their own choice from standard
piano repertoire. The time limit is 10 minutes for the Junior Division; 15 minutes for the Senior Division.
An original music score (no photocopies) must be provided for Judges.

First prize winners of the previous academic year may not enter the competition in the same division.

It is very important that the competition pieces be timed accurately. If the program exceeds the time limit,
the chair person will request the teacher to eliminate one of the pieces. The teachers who enter their students
will be asked to assist with running the competition.

All winners will be announced at the end of the competition. THE JUDGES’ DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
Contacting the Judges before, during or after the competition is unethical and inappropriate.
Winners must be present to receive their awards at the Winners’ Recital.

Date: Sunday, April 21st , 2013

Time: 1:30pm-5:30pm

Location: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave., Palo Alto

Winners’ concert: Sunday, May 12th , 2013 at 2pm

Deadline for submitting applications: Monday, April 1st , 2013

How To Apply:
1) Fill out one Application Form and 2 copies of the Evaluation Form (repertoire section) per entry.
2) Send /deliver the above along with one check per teacher (for the sum of all the teacher’s entries) by the
application deadline.

The fee is $40.00 for Junior Division; $45.00 for Senior Division. Please make checks payable to MTAC
Palo Alto Branch.

Preliminary schedule will be posted on this website one week prior the competition.

Notification via e-mail will be sent to the participants as well.
